An Opportunity for Compassion and Encouragement

11/2/2016

We were notified on October 29 that a woman we provide support to at Taycheedah that her 19-year-old son committed suicide last week.
This is the woman that sent us her son's high school graduation photo last Spring and asked if copies could be made so she could send them to people she knew.
This is the same woman that could not afford to buy a pair of shorts to replace the one's that were hanging by a thread and we would not have found out about it until another inmate told us.
This woman will never see her son again, hear his voice or be allowed to attend his funeral.
This woman named Anitra, is serving a sentence that allows her no comfort except from the small group of women that are also serving the time of "lifers."
Today we are furious, determined and heartbroken for her and are asking if people would be interested in sending her a card or a note of encouragement. She doesn't have to know you and will probably not be able to respond because she cannot afford the stamped envelopes. But she will know that this world has common threads of healing. We drafted a letter of sympathy and encouragement to her asking how we may continue to be a source of support.
If you are interested in sending her a card or note please go to our Contacts page and we will provide you with further information.
